Nothing Changes If Nothing Changes

Why smart, capable people still struggle to change their nutrition — and what actually works instead.
How long are you going to keep eating the same way before you realize nothing changes if nothing changes?
I know. Harsh for the second week of January.
But this matters.
Recently, I sat down with a student who completed SURGE in the fall. She did incredibly well — real progress, real change. And she’s not someone who avoids hard things.
She’s a beast in her career. A talented artist. A savage inside Strapped.
So when making real changes to her nutrition felt like a major pain in the ass, I paid attention. Not because she couldn’t handle the work — but because awareness is uncomfortable.
Through discovery, she learned something important about herself.
She eats many of the same foods consistently.
She makes smart decisions when dining out.
She loves carbs and fruit and easily meets her fibre needs.
She enjoys cooking and trying new recipes — just not over-managing them.
She thrives when someone else sets the structure.
She was ready for change — as long as the process didn’t feel like friction.
When we adjusted how the plan was delivered — not the science behind it — everything shifted.
This is where coaching actually matters.
For some people, tracking sounds like a nightmare.
For others, even the threat of being put on a meal plan is the kick in the ass they need to finally see results.
There is no single “right” method.
There is an evidence-based one — and it needs to be adapted to the human in front of me.
Science tells us what works.
Coaching tells us how to make it stick.
And that moment — when you stop circling and start committing — that part belongs to you.
When you’re ready, you won’t be doing it alone.
You’ll be joined by other SURGE students — and alumni who’ve already made life-changing progress and are excited to share what actually worked for them.
SURGE begins January 5 at 7:30pm via Zoom. Six weeks. Real coaching. Real accountability. A plan built for real life.
As we move into this new year, I hope you choose clarity over chaos, honesty over extremes, and progress over another restart.
STRAP IN. We’re just getting started.
